Manila is a sprawling capital of the Philippines. The city is witnessing a huge urban development boom as more and more people move towards more lucrative opportunities. The Philippines as a nation has been undergoing a dramatic change in the recent decade as well as it is starting to slowly move from a developing to a developed nation.
Manila offers a wide array of opportunities for its inhabitants but the realities of inequality can be felt on every step as slums oftentimes border high-end condominiums in the downtown area. As the nation moves forward, its residents are hopeful in an equitable distribution of new opportunities but whether this will manifest as expected is yet to be seen. Most quickly developing nations in the world have seen their existing inequalities exacerbated by the change. It is now up to the local government to make a move towards a more sustainable future for its people.
